Two late-’60s Thai covers of Japanese songs, brought together on one 7-inch. Banchop Chaiphra turns the Hokkaido folk song “Soran Bushi” into a swinging luk thung number driven by Japanese dodonpa rhythm. On the other side, Samai Onwong sings “Sakura La Kon” in Thai and Japanese, with khaen running through its bittersweet melody.
Japan and Isan meeting somewhere between country music, pop, and the dance floor.
